Anne Watts has lived with a condition called alopecia since she was in her early teens. Alopecia is an auto-immune condition that causes hair loss and hairlessness, and in Anne's case left her completely bald, with no facial hair at all, including her eyebrows.

Permanent Makeup Artist and educator, Jaimie Jolly, heard about Anne's condition from a mutual friend. Ann had been drawing on her own eyebrows every morning, but had trouble making her drawn-on brows look symmetrical and natural. Even when she did manage to get her brows drawn on to her satisfaction, they often became smudged throughout the day, or washed off if the weather was rainy. This would of course be frustrating for any woman, but especially for a young woman entering the world of post-secondary education, dating, and making her mark on the world. Anne admits that her self confidence was sometimes negatively affected by her missing eyebrows.

"I was very surprised when Jaimie contacted me with this opportunity, because it was something I was definitely hoping to do someday, but I wasn't sure how I was going to afford it," says Anne. "For someone like me, who has no brows at all, microblading is a perfect solution!"

Anne arrived at Jaimie's location at Thistle + Bloom, in Bancroft, Ontario. Jaimie, one of the country's most sought-after permanent makeup artists, carefully planned the arch of Anne's new brows, as well as the colour, with input and approval from Anne. Jaimie started by applying a numbing cream, and then made thin micro-cuts, and added the custom colour. The result, is a permanent perfect brow that is indistinguishable from natural brows.

"I just love it!" exclaimed Anne upon completion. 'They just look perfect!"

Anne says she's excited to be able to express her emotions better, now that she has visible eyebrows again, and she feels beautiful. But she has a reminder for us all.

"At the end of the day, whether you have hair or not, you're still an important person. you're still beautiful."
